Dr. Joe Knight

Joe KnightDr. Joe Knight is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Forest Resources and Soil, Water, and Climate at the University of Minnesota. In addition to the research work described on this site, Joe teaches three courses at the University of Minnesota: Remote Sensing of Natural Resources and Environment, Field Remote Sensing and Resource Survey, and Issues in the Environment.  He holds a Ph.D. from North Carolina State University and previously worked as a Biologist with the United States Environmental Protection Agency.  He is an author of numerous publications, including peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and technical reports.  Joe is a recipient of the 2011 College of Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resource Science (CFANS) Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching Award and the 2007 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Science and Technology Achievement Award.

Jennifer Corcoran, M.S.

Jennifer CorcoranJennifer Corcoran is a Ph.D. student in Natural Resources Science and Management (NRSM), minoring in Water Resources Science (WRS). Jennifer comes to us after completing her Master's degree in Soil Science in the Department of Soil, Water, and Climate here at the U. Her M.S. project involved examining the carbon flux impacts of different agricultural crops. She brings strong remote sensing and geospatial analysis skills to our group. For her Ph.D. work, Jenniferis focusing on wetland mapping using RADAR image data. You can visit Jennifer's personal website here.

Jim Klassen

Jim KlassenJim Klassen is a Master's student in the Natural Resources Science and Managment (NRSM) program. Jim's research interests are in web delivery of geospatial data. He comes to us from the City of St. Paul, where he worked in with GIS. Jim is a developer of the GeoMOOSE web delivery framework. He is also working with the SharedGEO organization. For his M.S. project, Jim plans to work on web delivery of 3d aerial images.

Lian Rampi, M.S.

Lian RampiLian Rampi is a Ph.D. student in the Natural Resources Science and Managment (NRSM) program. Lian came to the United States from Honduras, and joined the lab after completing the U's MAST international exchange program. She brings solid geospatial analysis and programming skills to the group. For her Ph.D. work Lian is focusing on improved methods to map wetland boundaries using topographic models and image data.

Maggie Voth, M.S.

Maggie VothMaggie Voth is a dual Master's graduate in the Master of Geographic Information Science (MGIS) program and NRSM. Maggie's MS work focused on lake clarity as assessed using MODIS image data. She is our resident GIS software expert. Maggie has a wide range of project experience, which gives her the ability to solve geospatial problems quickly and, most imporant, correctly.
